I am perplexed....Is it of any value that I write this or will it fall, like so many earnest expressions in our history, on deaf ears? So often have they done so that there are defensive phrases invented to lessen the alienation of the ignored utterer: casting pearls before swine,.. trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, are just two of the more common ones that slip protectively into mind.
These phrases are not just unfortunate in their roughness but miss the point in that the ignorant do not wish to be so, and are more accurately reflecting the environmental paucity of their upbringing, its continuation through the adult years and for some, bitterness toward any equal treatment for others primarily because, as they have experienced it, they received none.
For those of the latter group, mainly because of their meanness, I harbour barely controlled disappointment, in fact I hug the fence defining the landscape of my derision.
These are the bullies in our society, and like emaciated wolves ,their ears perk up, body and fur stiffening, white fangs glistening wetly, at the mere sound of anyone, (other than self) getting anything, for apparently nothing. We know these people as "Neo-Conservatives/Conservatives", and there is no helping these petty and vindictive souls, short of 6 months, night shifts, in the children's burn ward.
Why because they do not, or cannot see compassion and empathy as the extremely necessary tools for integrating change into our society, that they are, but rather as an insipid, creeping weakening of morals and beliefs that they see as always arriving together with change, change from the status quo. Compassion and the ability to empathize with our neighbour-citizens, harmonize, reduce violence, and insecurity with time and the understanding of the apparent differences that come to our communities with change.
These people should never be given positions of authority or social relevance, except over perhaps inanimate, impersonal objects such as: banks or corporations, where their tasks would be limited to counting things, letters, applications or time cards or other such relatively unimportant "things" but never should they be involved, as they are and have been, (Liberal govt. of B.C. or the Conservatives govt. federally) with anything connected to the development or implementation of policies and activities that actually affect, the fairness, the health and the quality of lives, our lives.
Next door to us we have, in Barak Obama, been provided with a great example....and I ask you...is there anything even close to that kind of compassion or empathy in the Liberals that lead us, people like Gordon Campbell. I mean at least beyond the obvious lying he does about his past activities in this province. There is no comparison between the likes of Gordon Campbell and a human being like Barak Obama and we are the worse off for not choosing his like.
In the last debate on the CBC between Carol James, Gordon Campbell and, Jane Sterk you can see it in Gordon Campbell as he speaks...his staring eyes as he tries so hard to speak a sentence that best sells, pushes his point of view..he does not believe in what he says...he can barely keep it straight in his mind. When he speaks,... his mind is always on businesses not on people, that is a side issue, a cumbersome annoying side issue. Because he needs your vote to continue to hand to business the dearest treasures of British Columbia ....for sale..back to us. Why? Because he will have established his family securely in the upper echelons of business elite in B.C. for the future. He does this at the cost of your futures and the futures of your children, where is the fairness in this? How can we allow this to continue?
I have been a businessman. I have run a number of successful businesses in my life, I am not against businesses...yet even I can see that we have handed our governance over to business and their policies, as if only they understand economic management. This may be a primacy of business but it is not exclusive to them, mark the recent greed-created global meltdown. Every household knows the value of a balanced budget. But let's face it, as business environments become ever more favourable for them, at our cost, we are losing the structure of our communities with the inevitable increase in crime, costs, unemployment, ill health, insecurity, and life dissatisfaction. The choices are clear my fellow citizens: further integration with the ups and downs of the corporate market, at great cost to our families and futures or start putting back a little heart and regain sane, life-affirming, loving and economically thriving communities. ....Please my friends vote NDP...vote for yourself, for your families for your future for a caring world. It starts with you..don't let them snake oil you...not one more time. Remember our senior citizens and how they have been treated? All that mattered was the money (and yes of course that matters... perhaps more for the NDP than the Liberals believe it or not...but they do not want you to get into credit card debt as the corporate agenda would wish...I know) so the seniors were split up, shuffled off to parts far from their communities. Remember how concerned business was with all the retirement savings invested in the stock market...not at all...the government was the one that worked on that issue.
When the NDP explains their policies they express them in terms of families, workers, children and the quality of their lives. Where honesty matters, integrity and yes...love and respect. Vote NDP... the choice then is clearly for you and for people.
When you are the most annoyed with them,
is when your children need you most.
